Bethany's Birthday!

Well a little late I know but I thought I would blog Bethany's birthday card. As you may know Bethany puts great store by her birthday card and each year the pressure grows to "outdo" last years!
Fortunately finding a theme was easy, Sherlock Holmes, which you could say is a passion of Bethany's (a certain Mr. Cumberbatch in particular!) Anyway enough of that!
I decided to make a 3 D "Creation", and began with a top hat. I know it should have been a deerstalker but that proved difficult and Bethany also like top hats ("I doff my hat to you Sir!") I made the hat on my Silhouette and sprayed it with W10 Copic using my air gun, this meant I could use sturdier card stock. I added a band from American Seam binding, and added red roses which I made from the Silhouette. I also traced and cut the Sherlock Silhouette out of silver vinyl.

I also designed and made my own magnifying glass, this was cut on the Silhouette and I used crackle glaze paint to give a vintage look. I embossed it with UTE.
I stamped images from Sam Poole's Sherlock Holmes stamp set, aged them with distress inks and then mat and layered them in black and white. I made a print, using acrylic paint and the fingerprint stamp for the bottom of the card.

One of Bethany's presents was the game Ni No Kuni and I was lucky enough to get some extra codes for it. I cut an envelope on my Cameo and filled it with a newspaper article about Sherlock Holmes. I put a creative expressions key on the outside and Cut "The key to the game" in vinyl. Inside I put a card with the key codes on them.
We had bought Bethany a watch necklace for her birthday for her Cosplay so I wrapped that around the top hat and placed it on the card.

I added a tag stamped with "To a great mind nothing is little", and again distressed it with distress inks. I stamped a Darkroom Door London Image on to glossy card, created a resist with masking fluid and inked it using distress stain inks and added it as a coloured image.

I created a colour film slide using two small darkroom door stamped images, which were inked and placed in a Cameo Cut film strip frame. Finally I use cut to path and cut the Birthday greeting out of vinyl.
I am pleased to say Bethany was absolutely delighted with it :) Now what to do next year Mmmmmmm?
Happy crafting,
Denyse x
