I have been lucky enough to to attend a couple of classes with Kate Crane and I used the techniques I learnt with her to create my 8" square canvas. The paints used were Decoart Fluid Media and also Decoart Tinting Base. My three colours were mixed with the tinting base and applied randomly, I then used stamps and stencils to build up the layers of the canvas. I finished with splodges of black paint, I used a white pen wherever I felt it needed it putting on swirls, wiggles and generally marking my page and added dots from the new Ranger Enamels range.
Trish provided the instruction for drawing and painting the character's face and figure(I have the Traplet DVD "Creating Faces", which gives lessons from four great artists) I used Golden Watercolour Ground, on normal Journal paper to create a texture to paint on and used a selection of Watercolour pencils and Neo Colour 2 Crayons to colour her in. I fussy cut her out and stuck her on to the canvas. I used a black watercolour pencil to outline her and added washi paper to ground her. I finished with the saying, "She dreams in colours that don't exist", which I created using my old fashioned motex labeller (which I LOVE!)
I loved doing this, especially as at various points throughout the process I decided it was a complete disaster, but remembered Kate's advice to keep going as anything can be mended using a technique like this!
I hope you enjoy it too, a splash of colour always makes me smile!
