Take a box ...

This month at the Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge we are sponsored by Scrapp Matts & Papertole Australia

who offer a fabulous variety of mixed goodies for crafters and artists alike, to enjoy.
For my DT piece I took a balsa wood box from The Works and decided to transform it into a vintage style box. The frame surrounding the plaque is from Scrapmatts and I painted it with gold Decoart, which is really highly pigmented paint and really gives a metallic look to the fab frame from scrapmatts.
. I am going to be sharing the techniques that I used at a workshop at Beautiful Things Brentwood, Essex and am really looking forward to it.
I love how you can make very basic items look completely aged!
Happy creating!

Chocolate button?

At Creative Artiste Mixed Media we are starting a new monthly challenge sponsored by Maja Design.

For my DT piece I decided to upcycle an old chocolate button pot.
I taped the area above the silver clip, then painted it with Paperartsy chalk paint.
I then cut and inked scrapbook paper to cover both the outside and inside. I also created a bottom for the dome at the top, inked it and added a flower embellishment from the Craft Box collection.
I also inked the edges of the box.
Finally I treated some muslin with Terialmagic and inked it with distress inks to make it look old.

Happy Crafting!

June Challenge at Creative Artiste

Over at Creative Artiste we have another fabulous "Anything Goes using Mixed Media" Challenge, sponsored by our very own team member Judy McKay who is offering a lovely stamp bundle as a prize.

I have been coveting the Screen Sensation silkscreen printing kit ever since it first came out and my lovely Mum, very kindly bought it for me when it was on a recent PoD on Create and Craft!!! I decided I wanted to make a little sketch journal for my holidays to I used chipboard shapes to create a cover which I gessoed and then used mod podge to stick muslin on to. I then used my Screen sensation to print butterflies on to the muslin. I chose a bright blue ink with a plain white background as I love the freshness of the combination and it reminds me of salty seas and sunny skies!
To complete the look I added  a butterfly charm made from stamping text on to card and then die cutting a butterfly shape and overlay. The book and charm were punched using my cropadile and eyelets were added. I used binder rings to construct the book and filled it with white mixed media paper.
Happy Crafting,

A Garden Plaque

We have a fabulous new challenge over at Creative Artiste today. The sponsor this month is Lindy's Gang and the lucky winner will receive some Lindy's Stamp Gang products to play with.

For my project I created a garden plaque using Powertex. I began by covering the board with Powertex and then fixing the plaster cast girl and face into position and covering everything again with Powertex. Strips of cotton fabric were soaked in bronze Powertex and then arranged on the board with banana skin to "ground ", the girl. A tab to hang the piece by was also fashioned out of cloth. Once completely covered I added the dragonflies and the project was left to dry. The whole piece was then buffed with pigment mixed with a small amount of water based varnish (almost to the point of being dry brushed).

Happy Crafting,

At Crafts Galore Encore our Challenge for April is sponsored by A Day for Daisies who produce the most AMAZING images!
I chose Bewildered, (which I am most of the time!) as I simply love her face and hair. When I saw the image I decided she needed to be a redhead and coloured her using my Copic pens. For my background splots I used Paperartsy Infusions on watercolour paper which I die cut. I then gave the image a simple, single layered mount.
I hope you like her :)

A Decoart Tray to Brighten Your Day!

This month at Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge we have a fabulous new sponsor DECOART a company with a huge range of products for mixed media artists.

I was really delighted to be able to use my Decoart stash for this project and boy did I use a lot of it!

I began by using Decoart gesso to cover a wooden tray. I then used Decoart Fluid media Acrylic paints to cover it in patches. I knocked this back with Decoart tinting base and then added more colour on top. I stenciled through punchinella with more paint to add patches of dots.
I then began mark making using a credit card and different sizes of lids, which were dipped in the paint.
I added washi tape and pen marks and doodles in both black and white pen and also Decoart Metallic paint and glitter paint.
I sprayed Decoart Shimmer Mists in pink and yellow and then finished with drips of carbon black fluid media paint.
The techniques were ones that a learnt at a Kate Crane Workshop at the Ministry of Mixology!
When I had finished I sprayed the whole thing with Decoart Americana Varnish and added a black vinyl decal which I cut on my Silhouette Cameo machine.
I am using the tray to store my Decoart Glitter paints!

Lots of layers!

This month's challenge at Creative Artiste is sponsored by the lovely Judy, a member of our DT and you can win this glorious set of goodies!

I decided that I would have another go at, "Excessive layering", and lots of fun and dire moments doing so.
I began with a tag which I covered in white gesso and then with printed tissue paper.

I added die cut tissue shapes which I spritzed with water and then removed when dry.I then knocked back with white paint and repeated several times building up the layers and leaving the tissue in the last stage. I added inks and sponged on paint. I cut the sentiment out of vinyl on my Cameo and stuck it on, then melted wax crayons and dribbled them on.

I used wire to create balloon shapes and stuck old papers behind them. These were coloured and then filled with liquid glass and then stuck on to the tag.

The final result is really quite interesting in real life but the photography doesn't really show how the layers work.

Happy crafting!
